A WORTHY WALK
The way of the cross leads to God’s best for our lives. The most satisfying steps in life are found
when we walk in the shadow of the cross.
Colossians 1:10 tells us to “walk in a
manner worthy of the Lord.”
A worthy walk has six steps. (HCSB)
First, it pleases Him in all
respects. We must walk in a way that is
pleasing to God. He wants us to walk in
a manner, style, a practice, a method according to our birthright as adopted
sons of God, and as accustomed to or expected of one who is a child of a King.
This manner
of style of walk should be pleasing to God.
When we are obedient, loving, forgiving, and all the other ways of
Jesus, we enter into a worthy walk.
Secondly, a worthy walk bears
fruit in every good work. Is your walk
bearing good fruit? Are your good works
done to impress others, or to introduce them to Jesus?
Third, a worthy walk increases our
knowledge of God. If we are walking with
God we will want to know more about Him.
We will have a hunger for the things of God.
The Fourth step is strength of character and
steadfastness. When we walk in a way
that pleases God, we will be strengthened by His power. We have met people wh0 have strength of
character which we all admire. To get
there, these people have walked with God in six areas. They have a steadfast life that has been
built on the worthy word of God; His thoughts are engraved upon theirs.
The Fifth step in a worthy walk is
patience. This step does not happen
overnight. Patience is developed over a
long and steady walk with the Lord. It’s
so foreign to our sinful, selfish nature that it takes time, but it certainly
is pleasing to God and worthy of His praise.
The sixth and final step in a worthy walk is thankfulness. Ehen we are walking with Him, we are joyously
giving thanks to a father who has qualified us to be a part of His family. We share in the inheritance of those who have
faithfully walked with God down through the ages.
As you finish the trail, maybe
winded, but invigorated. Please be thankful
for the opportunity to enjoy God’s creation and thankful that we can walk with
the creator.
It’s a worthy walk.
